Amber Laura Heard (born April 22, 1986) is an American actress, model, and activist. She has appeared in films such as Never Back Down (2008), Pineapple Express (2008), Drive Angry (2011), The Rum Diary (2011), The Danish Girl (2015), Magic Mike XXL (2015), and Aquaman (2018). She is also known for her roles in television series such as Hidden Palms (2007) and The Stand (2020).
Heard was born in Austin, Texas, to Patricia Paige (née Parsons), an internet researcher, and David Clinton Heard, a contractor. She has English, Irish, Scottish, German, and Welsh ancestry. Heard attended St. Michael’s Catholic Academy in Austin and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in English literature.
Amber Heard began her acting career in the early 2000s, appearing in guest roles on television series such as Jack & Bobby (2004) and The O.C. (2004). She had her first major role in the 2006 film Friday Night Lights. In the following years, she appeared in a number of films, including Alpha Dog (2006), Pineapple Express (2008), Never Back Down (2008), and Zombieland (2009).
In 2011, Amber Heard starred opposite Johnny Depp in the film The Rum Diary. The couple began dating shortly after filming wrapped and were married in February 2015. In May 2016, Heard filed for divorce from Depp, alleging domestic abuse. Depp denied the allegations, and the couple settled their divorce in August 2016.
Amber Heard has continued to work in film and television since her divorce from Depp. She starred in the 2017 film Justice League and its 2021 sequel, Zack Snyder’s Justice League. She also starred in the 2018 film Aquaman and its upcoming sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
In addition to her acting career, Heard is also an activist. She is a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and has spoken out against domestic violence. She is also a spokesperson for the American Civil Liberties Union.
